Dear Readers,

Aviation bears responsibility for making mobility as climate-friendly as possible. What form might that actually take?

Since 2012, growth on all intra-European flights has been CO2-neutral. This has been made possible through EU emissions trading. Starting in 2020/21, a global climate protection system will be launched for all international aviation. In many parts of the world, airlines will expand in a carbon neutral way from this point on.

Modern aircraft and the prospect of CO2-neutral fuels are making a decisive contribution to effective climate protection. In view of this investment-heavy agenda, political conditions that are equally marked by ambition and prudence are essential. For example, taxes would be counterproductive if they caused passengers to move to hubs such as Istanbul, Dubai or Doha. Policies that promote innovation or tackle tough challenges as the Single European Sky does would be better.

With our eight key climate policy messages, we present key figures, correlations and possible solutions. We hope to thereby make our contribution to a solution-oriented debate and are always happy to answer questions and enter into discussions.
